What counts as stalking? Facebook perhaps? Intrigued with a celebrity? These all count as stalking right?. In my opinion not so much, they all just come with the Territory, although I think staking is unhealthy and feel there is a fine line between just being concerned in a persons interests and becoming a stalker- in which you become obsessed. Websites among the the Internet such as, Facebook(http://www.facebook.com/), Myspace (http://www.myspace.com/) and Twitter(http://www.twitter.com/) have allowed it to become easy for stalking to take place and even throughout these websites you can keep your eyes on the most famous celebrity's on this planet.
Stalking can turn nasty, Not just for ordinary people but for celebrity's too. Celebrity Kim Kardashian had a restraining order imposed on a stalker who followed her through the networking website Twitter. The staler was following her every move not just on Twitter but he was actually following her around America too, every where she went he appeared. In my opinion this is unhealthy and this stalker is clearly obsessed.http://http//www.examiner.com/x-29266-Atlanta-Celebrity-Headlines-Examiner~y2010m1d22-Kim-Kardashians-stalker-from-Georgia
A story at http://www.bbc.co.uk/switch/slink/sexlovelife/reallife/boyfriend.shtml#2, highlights the story of a girl who has gone through a stalking ordeal which has got to of been terrifying to say the least., I personally believe that people who have got to this extent need to seek some sort of medical help.
As we witnessed in leture on the short film, we saw the man stalking a woman. He even went to the ectent where he hacked into her email and computer. In my opinion if you ever get like this or even consider doing this you proably should seek some kind of help from a professional or you should even talk it through with someone who could help you not beocme a 'stalker'.
I came across a charity( http://www.nss.org).uk/which supports and gives advice to victims of stalkers. I think this is a good thing to do as, if you have been stalked you are still probably scared and horrified by the ordeal you have faced and think this charity is achieving a positive thing, in which that victims can talk about their experiences.
Stalking can be perceived differently as we saw in our lecture. Many mixed opinion arose as to what stalking actually is. The majority believed stalking is very much an ongoing concern, especially with the development of new technology. Stalking involving a computer is often concerned 'cyber stalking'.
Whichever way you look at it 'healthy' staking can easily turn into 'unhealthy' stalking and can cause emotional and physical distress not only to the victim but to the stalker!. I feel that overall stalking can be okay when you just show an interest in a persons activities and interests (e.g) use Facebook or other networking sites to catch up with friends, but if you start to do anything really beyond this (e.g) check their profiles 50 times a day etc or continually on their profile, then this is where I consider it to be stalking or borderline stalking at least.
Hey i agree with you on this. Stalking indeed is very immature behaviour, as i have experienced it, it can be very scarey and horrific!
ReplyDeleteWhy do people do such stupid actions! I really am against stalking and would never even take it as a joke! People need to be careful nowadays especially. It gets even more serious when people get sexually abused! Beware is all i can say to people out there!!!
